The Thrills of a Zombie-Themed Wedding
The Best Man - Joe Garcia
Patrick & I met about 10 years ago through my cousin Mikey, who – at the time was dating the maid of honor Kristen Holder. I’m sorry for bringing that up, but at least this isn’t your wedding. We all used to hang out at the trailer and play catan, call of duty on PS3, & smoke blunts on blunts on blunts on blunts. I actually learned how to roll blunts because of that.
We also had some very deep philosophical & political discussions. That kind of stuff happens when you smoke a lot of weed with someone. It turned out that Patrick & I shared a lot of the same viewpoints about politics and religion. My grandmother once told me, “if you want to stay friend with people never discuss politics or religion.” I found this statement to be true amongst my acquaintances, my casual friends, & my parents.
The idea is, that in general, you don’t want to offend people. But I also found when you are able to talk about those things with your friends, & you agree with each other, you find your closest friends. You find your people. After one of those conversations about life & religion, I knew that we would be good friends. I knew that Patrick was my people. Despite a 15 year ago gap, Patrick became like a brother to me.
After a couple of years, I went through a break up that was hard on me, & Patrick was there for me. He gave me a safe space. A place to go & forget about my problems, a place with friends, & for that I thank you. After a few more years and a couple of more breakups, for the both of us. Jayme came along & she was a breath of fresh air after Patrick’s previous relationships.
I think the first time Jayme & I met was at my friend Bryon’s Halloween party. We were all in costume, drinking, dancing, Alex was rolling balls, and we all had a good time.
Over the years I’ve come to know that Patrick is one of those people who really cares about his friends. I think that after the loss of both of his parents around the same time in his life, it made him a more resilient person. I think it made him value his relationships more than people do. I never met your father Patrick, but from what you’ve told me about him, I can see a lot of him in you. I also have the feeling that he would of been extremely proud of the man you have become and your character. Your charisma. I think your father and your mother, would be very proud of you today.
Today we not only celebrate the love between a Man and a Women, we also celebrate the love of a Father and his Family. Patrick not only fell in love with Jayme, he also fell in love with Breanna. Although he got snipped a long time ago, he actually turned out to be a pretty good dad. You got lucky with this one Jayme. He really cares about that little girl. You may know me to be an atheist but I’ll be praying for you both the next 8 to 9 years.
Thank you for throwing this awesome party. Its perfect & you two were meant to be together. I love all three of you. Congratulations.
